Do look out for the usual points like service history, ownership history, oil leaks, how the engine sounds, how the car drives, rust (on the older cars) etc.

To be absolutely sure you're getting what you're paying for, we strongly recommend you to bring the car BEFORE you commit to one of the workshops mentioned in our Garage page - it may save you the grief from buying a poorly cared-for specimen. You should be suspicious when the owner or dealer is reluctant to let you bring the car for a pre-sale inspection.
